Representative Jim Struzzi (R, Indiana) vowed to keep working to get this session’s bill HB1245 passed by the PA legislature.

PA Harm Reduction Network’s impactful efforts on April 8th included twenty-five one-on-one educational meetings with legislators, distribution of SSP fact sheets to every legislative office, and receiving a significant acknowledgment on the House floor. They also published an updated SSP Advocacy Toolkit

online.

Speakers at this year’s rally urged legislative action to expand life-saving harm reduction services in Pennsylvania.  They included Senator Nikil Saval (D, Philadelphia), Representative Jim Struzzi (R, Allegheny), Representative Emily Kinkead (D, Allegheny), Acting Secretary of the Health Dr Debra Bogen, Physician Divya Venkat, and harm reduction experts Elvis Rosado, Kim Botteicher, and Kate Favata, along with PAHRN’s Executive Director Carla Sofronski.

PAHRN sponsored its first legislative rally more than two years ago, the same year it organized as a state-wide grassroots organization following the closure of the Pennsylvania Harm Reduction Coalition. A recording of that October 2021 rally by PCN-TV is available online.
